Tasting notes
From a parcel located below the Combe aux Moines, the 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin En Velle sports a magnificent nose of red cherries, raspberries, and spices. This silky-textured wine explodes on the palate with layers of toasted oak-tinged sweet cherries. Its tannin is present, providing structure, yet it is ripe and suave. Anticipated maturity: now-2011. (also tasted at the very end of its malo) Ruby-red. Wild small berries dominate the nose, along with torrefaction notes of espresso and bitter chocolate. Juicy, tight and very intensely flavored, but presently a bit imploded. Still, this comes across as sweeter than the Deree. All dark berries today. Finishes firmly tannic and quite long.
About the producer

This estate, today with Arnaud Mortet at the helm, makes some of Gevrey-Chambertin’s finest wines. Working with 16 hectares, as well as a few négociant parcels, this property makes perfumed and chiselled Pinot Noir.
