Tasting notes
The 1995 Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim has a dark golden-apricot or bright-amber color and opens with a clear, fresh, pure and mineral nose with concentrated apricot, short bread, almond and even dark-chocolate aromas. The 1995 reveals maturity, but also great freshness, precision and a pretty cool character. On the palate, this is a leaner, but highly elegant and finessed, Altenberg with coconut flavors and a clear, pure, fresh and linear finish with lots of salt, chamomile flowers and a stimulating tannin grip. Although it was bottled with 70 grams grams of residual sugar, it is terribly fresh and mineral. Another great, gastronomic Altenberg.

Fresh, crisp, pure, tangy minerals and lemons are found in the 1995 Altenberg Grand Vin Bergheim's aromatics. This highly-focused, powerful, and extracted wine reveals a crystalline character filled with citrus juice covered-quartz. It is still tight yet has substantial underlying richness and concentration. Projected maturity: 2001-2010+. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel (202) 832-9083.
