Score 90/100 · Drink 2000-2010, Robert Parker, Aug 2000
An outstanding effort, the 1997 Romitorio di Santedame is a blend of Sangiovese and Colorino aged in French barriques. It is a full-bodied, expansive, powerful wine with gorgeous levels of black cherry and cassis fruit, lead pencil, toast, and smoky scents. It reveals the vintage's tell-tale, lush, opulent texture, excellent purity, and oodles of fruit and glycerin. Drink it over the next 7-10 years. Importer: Schieffelin & Somerset, New York, NY; tel.
