Serralunga d’Alba, 30 months in barrique. Exotic slightly stewed spiced red fruit. Then a marked fruit sweetness in the middle which is very welcome. Small oak influence shows but in a rounding and complementary way. But fruit is just a bit jaded. (JH)

The 2004 Barolo Prapò, from a vineyard in Serralunga, is richer and weightier than the Brunate. This fresh, structured wine is loaded with sweet dark plums and prunes in liqueur, vanilla and sweet toasted oak. It offers outstanding length and finessed tannins that frame its core of dark fruit. It too is made in a very international style.
