45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 14% Petit Verdot. 46.18 hl/ha. Harvested 25 September to 15 October. Deep, youthful colour. Fairly neutral nose. Touch of liquorice or hint of char? Soft and supple on attack then a bit of a hole in the middle. Dry and short on the finish. Still there but doesn’t offer much excitement. (JL)

The 2007 Meyney is quite austere on the nose, offering darker fruit than the 2006; gravel and forest floor scents become stronger with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly hard tannins and more cohesion than the 2006, but reveals a nagging bitterness on the aftertaste. Drink soon. Tasted at a vertical at Château Meyney.

Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2007 Bordeaux tasting. There is something anonymous about the nose of the 2007 Meyney—nothing faulty but just missing something to say. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, moderate depth, plenty of tobacco and pencil lead notes, with a straightforward, weighty finish that goes a long way in compensating for the lack of aromatics. Tasted March 2015.
