Tasting notes
Score 88/100 · Drink 2008-2015, Pierre Rovani, Aug 2005

I adored the sumptuous blueberry, violet, and black cherry scents emanating from the glass of the medium to full-bodied 2003 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees. A silky textured, suave wine in both the attack and mid-palate, it reveals loads of sweet black fruit flavors and a long yet firm finish. Drink it between 2008 and 2015. Note: Three wines that were tasted as barrel samples in November, 2004 were re-tasted from bottle in June, 2005. The 2003 Puligny-Montrachet (rated 87 points) is medium-bodied, expressive and plush, yet focused; the 2003 Pernand-Vergelesses Croix de Pierre (88) sports a wonderful nose of flowers and red cherries as well as a deep medium-bodied character filled with stony dark fruits; and the outstanding 2003 Pommard Rugiens (92) is medium to full-bodied, dense, structured, intense, and crammed with dark fruits. Ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry liqueur, violet, licorice and mint. Sweet black fruit flavors are given structure and energy by underlying chalk and minerality. Dense, bright and very long, with lingering mineral notes on the finish. Quite elegant for the vintage.

A step up in both elegance and finesse with higher-toned red pinot fruit that offers seductive spice nuances all framed by a subtle trace of wood. The sweet, delicious and beautifully complex flavors are relatively linear for an '03 as the typical minerality and chalkiness of Fuées gives real lift to the very firm backend. A beautiful wine and if not exactly understated, it's much more so than most wines of this vintage. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr01,2005.
