Score 93/100 · Robert Parker
From another of the properties of cult/boutique winemaker Jonathan Malthus, the 2005 Laforge is largely dominated by its unfiltered, old vine Merlot component. With dark chocolate, raspberry and espresso notes, sweet cassis, loads of earth, spice, and medium to full body, this is an attractive, bigger-than-usual style for Laforge, with some tannins still to resolve. It can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-15 years.
