Score 95/100 · Drink 2016-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2012

The 2001 Barolo Garblèt Sue' is an infant. How much longer will the Garblet need? Perhaps as long as another decade. Layers of dark red fruit build effortlessly to the huge finish as this deep, compelling Barolo conquers the palate and intellect. Huge, massive tannins provide the backdrop for the fireworks in this utterly beguiling Barolo. The finish reveals an exotic, wild side of Nebbiolo that is compelling.

Brovia’s 2001 Baroli are stunning. Such beauty. Such grace. It’s all there in these splendid, handcrafted wines. Vinification and aging are very much done along traditional lines, although Brovia prefers French rather than Slovenian oak for their casks. Readers who own these wines are going to be very, very happy. Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchants, Pine Plains, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990

The 2001 Barolo Garblèt Sué (from the vineyard also known as Bricco Fiasco or Bric del Fiasc) displays a dark red color and a heady mix of spice, macerated cherry, mineral and earth nuances with considerable sweetness on the palate and an expansive frame that offers outstanding depth as well as definition. It will offer rewarding drinking to at least age 25.
