Good medium red. Enticing aromas of redcurrant, sour red cherry, marzipan and violet, plus a whiff of smoky oak. Silky and perfumed in the mouth but still youthfully unforthcoming. Rich in the style of the year but with very good definition and inner-mouth perfume. "Our most feminine Barolo, from more sandy soil," noted Marta Rinaldi, adding that the family's holding in Ravera is closer to the woods, cooler and southeast-facing, and thus contributes acidity to the blend.

The 2009 Barolo Cannubi San Lorenzo/Ravera emerges from the glass with sweet red berries, leather, licorice, menthol and sweet spices, all supported by fine, silky tannins. I very much like the sense of energy and vibrancy Rinaldi was able to achieve in 2009, no small feat. The Cannubi San Lorenzo/Ravera has excellent color, freshness, vibrancy, and above all else superb balance. It is easily one of the highlights of the year.

Commune of Barolo. Still youthful-looking mid ruby with just the beginning of orange on the rim. A little dusty and broodingly sweet strawberry jam. Quite intense, concentrated fruit but not yet open. Beautiful lightness of touch on the palate. (WS)

The 2009 Cannubi S. Lorenzo – Ravera shows similar tones of dark tobacco leaf and herb. But this expression also delivers a dusty mineral note that beautifully frames and delineates the overall bouquet. The big surprise is due to the crisp freshness of this wine. Thanks to that acidity, you can count on the wine’s aging potential. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. This historic brand, presents some of the purest Barolo available today.
