Score 92/100 · Drink 2003-2008, Pierre Rovani, Apr 2003

For hedonistic pleasure, you can't beat Bernard Morey's 2001 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Embrazees. Its mouth-watering gingerbread, spice, and clove aromas lead to a medium to full-bodied, broad personality. Liquid minerals, spiced pears, and candied apples can be found in its fleshy, intense, and concentrated core of fruit. This gorgeous wine also reveals a majestically long, pear-packed finish. Projected maturity: now-2008. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802, and Louis/Dressner Selections, Long Island City, NY; tel. (718) 433-4781

(from vines planted in 1961) Ripe, musky aromas of honey, herbs and sweet oak. Rounder and less bracing than the Baudines, with good texture and ripeness but a bit less precision. Here the acids seem softer. Then ripe and honeyed on the back.
