Lively deep, healthy crimson. Mulch, hidden nose. The wine is uncompromising in its acidity and tannin and is clearly set for the very long term. Do not open! (JR)

Displaying an evolved appearance with considerable amber at the edge, the 1997 Barolo Margheria exhibits notes of dried flowers, figs, tobacco, old oak, mushrooms, and cherries in its aromatics as well as flavors. Medium-bodied and spicy, it should drink well for 10-12 years. A Leonardo Locascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620
