Old vintages of Maucaillou can be excellent. Alas, the half-bottle of 1990 Maucaillou was so oppressed by Brettanomyces that it was difficult to discern the fruit, however hard I tried. You can tell there is actually a very decent Moulis in the glass, but the palate is, again, hampered by Brettanomyces to the extent that I cannot finish even this demi-bouteille.

About the producer

Maucaillou
Owned by the négociant Dourthe, this Moulis property has 87 hectares of vines today (with 67 added by Philippe Dourthe since 1967). Managed and made by an expert team, the quality here is hardly surprising.
