The 1962 Brane-Cantenac has quite a deep core with thin bricking on the rim. The bouquet will attract those with a penchant for old-school claret; it is tinctured with chlorophyll, which often indicates either a 1961 or 1962. There are plenty of pressed flower aromas – iris, perhaps – and then with aeration it develops pretty crushed strawberry scents. The palate is not quite as seductive as the aromatics. It is a little monotone, balanced, yet lacks vigor and tension; it is simply fatigued by age. That's a pity because the nose kept on improving in the glass. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château .
