Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Marquis de Calon-Segur has a lot of chocolaty new oak on the nose that detracts from any terroir expression—it could be from anywhere. The palate is medium-bodied with tough tannin on the entry, moderate weight, but a dry, austere finish. Tasted January 2016.

The 2012 Marquis de Calon is a rustic, hearty wine to drink over the next few years. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, licorice, tobacco and leather open up with time in the glass. This is a solid second wine from Calon-Segur. The blend is 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Sauvignon. Eric Boissenot consults.
The second wine of Calon Segur, the 2012 Marquis de Calon, is very good. Deep ruby/purple with lots of black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, subtle background earthiness, medium body, nice texture and overall balance, this should drink well young and continue to evolve for up to a decade.| eRobertParker.com.April, 2015

Wedding gift lists traditionally include wine glasses or cutlery, but in 1718, Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, the owner of Château Lafite and Château Latour and president of the Bordeaux parliament, received a rather more impressive present: Château Calon.
