Reticent flavors of stone fruits and smoky minerality. Nicely sweet and deep, showing good volume and balance with moderate complexity. Solid stony minerality extends the lightly saline finish.

The 2011 Saint Aubin is one of the highlights among Boillot's entry-level whites. Silky, polished and impeccably refined, the Saint Aubin impresses for its overall sense of harmony. Sweet, perfumed notes add considerable nuance and complexity on the crystalline finish. This is a great effort and just as compelling a value. Although sold as a village wine, all of the fruit comes from the premier cru Les Pitanges.

(Not yet released) Henri Boillot recently finished his move to a new modern cellar in Champ Lins, one of the industrial sections of Meursault. Boillot describes his 2011s as having a bit more richness and better balance of fruit and acidity than the 2010s. Based on what I tasted, it’s hard to argue that point. Boillot seems to be one case where the 2011s have the potential to be better across the board than the 2010s. As is often the case here, the village wines are particularly strong. This is more elegant if less expressive with its pretty but discreet aromas of lemon rind, white flowers and pear. There is really lovely detail to the lightly mineral-inflected flavors that exude a saline note on the balanced and delicious finish. This will be accessible young but should reward a few years in the cellar too. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2016+
