Score 86/100 · Drink 2019-2022, Neal Martin, Apr 2019

The 1975 Rauzan-Ségla is deeper in colour than the 1979 tasted alongside, a thinner tawny rim and certainly a deeper core. The nose is pretty with scents of red berry fruit, molasses, clove and a touch of desiccated orange peel. It still conveys a sense of energy and returning after an hour there is a strong and attractive liquorish scent. The palate is medium-bodied with thick and grippy, rather uncouth tannins, moderate acidity, simple but enjoyable for those with a penchant for old Claret. It never really builds in the mouth and finishes a little short however, I suspect that large formats will give pleasure. Tasted at the Rauzan-Ségla vertical at the château.
