Score 92/100 · Drink 2023-2034, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Mar 2023

More evident juice, vibrant red and black fruit fruit and gourmet smoked sandalwood than the 2011. Still shows the earthiness and Médoc character that is a signature of Labégorce, but with a sleek edge. Plenty of impact, melted tannins. The changes brought in by technical director Marjolaine de Coninck were clearly making an impact at this point. 50% new oak.

Spice and cedar, blackcurrant fruit. Light tannin. Smooth and juicy with a little Margaux perfume adorning the finish. (RH)

The 2012 Labégorce is dark and explosive in the glass, with tons of intensity and pure power. Black cherries, smoke, licorice, mocha, leather and dark spices hit the palate in a voluptuous, racy wine built on pure intensity. The 2012 is juicy and forward, with all the elements in the right place. The 2012 is 53% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.

Labégorce is a property on the upswing, and that is reflected in this very strong 2012. Dense ruby/purple in color, with loads of blackcurrants, plum, licorice and graphite, it is medium to full-bodied, with soft tannins and excellent concentration. This is a beauty and a major sleeper of the vintage. The final blend was 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.
