Glowing ruby with tawny rim. Very sweet, jewelly nose with obvious alcohol. Very sweet and firm with good life and concentration. Firm tannins on the finish. Quite fiery with a dry finish. I could imagine this going beautifully with cheddar but it is a bit aggressive for drinking on its own. (JR)

This house tends to make a good port and sell it at rather reasonable prices. The 1970 is straight-forward and chunky, with good length but not much complexity. It is fully mature.
