Score 84/100 · Drink 2022-2027, Neal Martin, Aug 2022

The 1982 Climens is much lighter in colour compared to the 1983. The nose is simple with scents of mango and frangipane, a hint of candle wax. It is missing some vigour and lacks a bit of clarity. The palate is medium-bodied with stem ginger and apricot, simple but meliorating in the glass that it remains short on the mango-tinged finish. Tasted April 2009 at Château Climens.

TA  3.8 g/l (sulphuric)  RS 80 g/l.   High yields for Climens (23 hl/ha).   Honeyed and perfumed like heather honey but also a bright note of citrus. Tangy and a slightly grainy phenolic texture (not unpleasant). Quite tight and tangy and noticeable freshness even though the TA is not especially high . Dry-tasting at the end, perhaps a little less perfectly balanced than some with less depth and more freshness. (JH)

Only tasted twice, but on each occasion Climens did not display the crisp acidity and structure that one has come to expect from this property. Somewhat diffuse, sweet, and flabby, without enough counterbalancing acidity, this is a wine that will no doubt mature quite quickly. Anticipated maturity: Now-1993. Last tasted, 3/86.
