Score 86/100 · Drink 2019-2024, Neal Martin, Oct 2019

The 1961 Climens turned up at a dinner in London. To be frank, it has never been the greatest Climens, certainly not within the top tier of vintages. It is fairly pale with flecks of green for a Barsac this old. You might describe the nose as a little anemic and missing botrytised fruit and precision. Smudged candied orange peel and barley sugar scents emerge with time. The palate has a pleasing waxy texture with dried honey and hints of passion fruit, a light wet wool/Chenin-like tincture that becomes more dominant towards the finish. Drink bottles now or seek out the superior 1962 Climens. Tasted at Chez Bruce in London.
