Tasting notes
The 1996 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is just beginning to show the first signs of aromatic development. Pliant and silky on the palate, with plenty of Asili sensuality, the 1996 is a pleasure to drink and taste today. Soft tannins and lifted floral/savory aromatics add to the wine's considerable appeal. I would prefer to finish any remaining bottles over the next decade or so, while the wine retains a good deal of freshness. The 1996 Asili is a bit rustic, but also very pleasing in its own way.

This wine is profound. It is purely made and merits considerable attention. The wine requires an additional two years of cellaring. The aging potential for this wine is 15-20 years. Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
Deep red-ruby, not quite as bright as the Moccagatta. Deeply pitched, nuanced aromas of chocolate, camphor and smoked meat. Rich, deep and concentrated, but youthfully unevolved and currently hiding its sweetness. Classic inner-mouth notes of dried rose, eucalyptus and truffle. Finishes with dusty, strong, building tannins and sneaky persistence. Unusually backward for this bottling, but built to reward aging.
