50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% new oak for 16 months. Dark garnet. Pale rim. Sweet start but a bit light and diffuse on the palate. Just a tad simple and scrawny. But some satisfaction on the finish. (JR)

The 2012 from Petit Bocq is a supple, round, juicy, dark ruby/purple St.-Estèphe, with attractive ripe fruit, loads of blackcurrants and cherries, earth and spice, but supple tannins and a silky, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Drink it over the next decade.

Lovely smoky perfume, and a spiciness that reminds me of Syrah, in fact. Very distinctive, and perhaps not entirely typical of the appellation, but a lovely drink nonetheless, with some very charming oak char on the finish. (RH)
