The 2008 Petit Village has a light but fresh, balsamic-tinged bouquet, more red fruit than black. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, nicely judged acidity, although it feels a little lean and austere towards the finish that tapers prematurely. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with a developed rim. Not that much nose. A little pinched and dry on the end. A bit of a hole in the middle with the alcohol notable on the end. (JR)
Blackish ruby. Firm, clarety, Cabernet sort of nose. Pure and expressive. Rather cool on the finish and far from opulent but correct. Just a bit dry on the end. (JR)
Bright dark red. Dark berries, violet, licorice, bitter chocolate, mint and menthol on the ripe, perfumed nose. Juicy and moderately dense, with a light touch to the berry and menthol flavors. Could use a bit more definition and stuffing but should offer pleasure over the next seven or eight years. Finishes with dusty tannins and a repeating menthol note.
