I have my reservations about this vintage of de Pez only because it has been so forbiddingly impenetrable and tannic. Tasted several times after bottling, the wine has an impressive dark ruby color, but the nose is completely locked in, and on the palate, the wine is abrasively coarse, revealing none of the flesh, charm, or concentration one expects to find even in the youngest claret. Nevertheless, it is hard to believe that this property has not made at least a good wine, but patience is most definitely required. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 3/90.

About the producer
The Rouzaud family of Champagne Louis Roederer purchased this Saint-Estèphe estate in 1995. The property comprises 23 hectares of vines, divided between 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot. The wine is aged in around 25% new oak for 18 months.
