Fruit from Coonawarra. 57% Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Coonawarra Shiraz. 18 months in new American oak hogsheads. pH 3.30, TA 6.5 g/l. Bottled October 1983 at Nuriootpa. 890 cases. A little skinnier than the regular 1982 Bin 95 Grange. Curranty and sweet. Treacle and liquorice. (JR)
The 1982 Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz Bin 820 is well pitched, with blackberry and mulberry aromas lifted by thyme and freshly cut cedar. It shows better definition and fruit integrity than the more herbal Bin 80A, with deeper layers of flavour, good vibrancy and ample balance. A firm core of sinewy tannins drives a long yet angular finish, with gravelly, earthy tones beginning to emerge. Over 40 years old and at its peak, the 1982 still has plenty of life left.
