The top five Pomerols from J.P Mouiex (Certan d May, Providence, Hosanna, La Fleur Petrus and Trotanoy) are absolutely terrific in 2011. Trotanoy has a wonderful nose more reminicient of a Grands Echezeaux than a Pomerol. Primal and tightly wound however beneath lies a resevoir of fresh sappy fruit. Terrific stuff!

The 2011 Trotanoy has a delineated and nicely focused bouquet, maybe not the most energetic you will find, though I appreciate the pencil box and sage aromatics filtering through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well judged acidity, fleshy and very well balanced with impressive precision on the finish. This is an excellent Pomerol that is ageing beautifully in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.
Tasted blind. Mid garnet with a ruby rim. Highly aromatic and lifted. Rich and sweet but not heavy – though there is evolution of fruit plus tannin! Just a little dusty on the end. (JR)
Tasted blind. Some furniture webbing on the nose and then concentration on the palate, without bitterness. Lively. Juicy!! Long. (JR)
About the producer
Château Trotanoy was one of the first recognised Premier Cru sites on the Pomerol plateau, with records dating back to the late 1700s. Even back in the nineteenth century it was seen as the best site in Pomerol second only to Vieux Château Certan.
