Good medium yellow. Soil-driven aromas of orange zest, vanilla and lavender. Rich, fine-grained and deep, with terrific stony clarity for a 2009. At once dense and vibrant, with captivating lavender high tones. Finishes very fine and long, with the structure to age. Conveys a strong impression of terroir and excellent verve for the year.

The 2009 Meursault Les Gruyaches comes across as a touch light and less well-defined than some of the other wines in this lineup. This is an attractive, feminine wine, but I don't quite find the fruit nor the minerality of the finest wines here.

The 2009 Meursault Les Gruyaches comes across as a touch light and less well-defined than some of the other wines in this lineup. This is an attractive, feminine wine, but I don’t quite find the fruit nor the minerality of the finest wines here. Anticipated maturity: 2013+. Fichet was among the first producers to harvest in 2009. Picking began on September 2 and lasted just 5 days as opposed to the more typical 7-8. The wines spent 12 months in oak followed by 6 months in steel. These are some of the most bright, tense wines of the vintage. In that sense, they don’t have a lot of vintage character per se, despite being very appealing. Importer: The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel. (707) 996-4484
