Score 91/100 · Drink 2015-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2012

The 2008 Barolo emerges from the glass with juicy dark berries, sweet spices, tobacco and incense, all in a medium-bodied style that is quite appealing. The 2008 shows the personality of the year in a fairly approachable style. The 2008 finishes with lovely vinous energy but ultimately it is a bit simple.

This is a terrific set of new releases from Prunotto. In particular, this year I was impressed with the quality and consistency of the entry-level offerings. Importer: Ste. Grapes sourced from Barolo, Monforte d'Alba, Castiglione Falletto. Only just mid ruby with broad orange rim. Not open yet, with spicy notes on the nose. Solid Nebbiolo fruit with stalky but not overpowering tannin. (WS)

Pale red with an amber edge. Sour cherry, rose petal, camphor and spices on the nose. Vibrant and suave in the mouth, offering a restrained sweetness and good balancing acidity. Builds nicely on the back end, finishing with nobler tannins than the 2008 Barbaresco normale .
