Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2017

The 2010 Barolo opens to a thick and impenetrable appearance. This is a darkly saturated expression that offers bold fruit aromas of dried blackberries, tar, licorice, roasted chestnut and exotic spice. Consider that the aromatic intensity of the wine is taken up an important notch. Fruit is "rested" before fermentation to achieve a light dehydration and to soften the crunchiness of the skins before fermentation. The wine also delivers a lower threshold of perceived acidity coupled with a stronger tannic footprint (the wine is fermented with stems). This pretty vintage still needs a few more years of cellar aging.

Quite deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Very lifted and almost catchy perfumed leafy sweet raspberry. Very intense and ripe on the palate, and just enough acidity to give it structure. Not really heavy but still very full-on and a tiny bit astringent on the finish. (WS)

Crushed flowers, savory herbs, mint, dried flowers and red cherries waft from the glass in Parusso's 2010 Barolo. The use of 50% whole clusters, which is unusual in Barolo, gives the 2010 much of its aromatic lift, perfume and mid-weight structure. The style is a bit eccentric, but it all works nicely. Hints of orange peel and white truffles add nuance on the ethereal, somewhat fleeting finish.
