Tasting notes
A stunner to look for is the 1996 Barbaresco Bricco Asili (rated a whopping 94-97 just prior to its being bottled unfiltered). I am doing everything I can to locate this estate-bottled wine as I suspect it will be one of the most profound Barbarescos Bruno Giacosa has made. Ruby red. Black cherry and dried rose aromas; not as exotic but more penetrating and classic than the '97. Vibrant, delineated and stuffed with fruit; the wine powerful acid spine gives it terrific snap and grip. Offers as much flavor development as the '97, but this is far more backward today. Finishes with huge tannic clout and wonderful sweetness.
