Gorgeous, joyful wine. Dark-ruby color. Beautiful aromas of strawberries, raspberries and spices. Full-bodied and very velvety, with lovely texture and a long, berry-vanilla aftertaste.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2004. James Suckling,Wine Spectator1999

The 1989 remains the finest young Magdelaine I have tasted. Deep ruby/purple in color, with a restrained but blossoming bouquet of chocolatey, super-extracted, roasted, plummy fruit, this wine has an extra dimension to its flavors and excellent length, yet remains understated and well-balanced. There is considerable tannin in the finish, but the alcohol seems less exaggerated than in many St.-Emilions, and the acidity is sound. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025.
