Score 88/100 · Drink 2005-2015, Robert Parker, Oct 2002

The 1997 Stonewell Shiraz boasts an impressively saturated ruby/purple color, but was closed both aromatically and on the palate. It possesses excellent to outstanding concentration as well as medium to full body, but the tannin and acidity currently dominate. My instincts suggest this is an excellent, but not outstanding wine. Anticipated maturity:2005-2015. Importer: New World Wines / Appellation Imports, Washington, DC; tel. (888) 591-4009

The deep ruby/purple-colored 1997 Shiraz is a terrific wine value. It offers a big, sweet, peppery, earthy, creosote, blackberry, and cassis-scented bouquet as well as flavors. Fat and chewy, with low acidity, this plump Shiraz should drink well for a decade. Importer: Appellation Imports LLC, Annapolis Junction, MD; tel. (410) 880-4790

Deep red-ruby. Cool aromas of black and red raspberry, smoke and pepper. Concentrated, supple and juicy; shapely and clean. More harmonious than the cabernet. Ripely tannic, lingering aftertaste shows attractive berry flavors.
