Score 91/100 · Drink 1998-2010, Robert Parker, Oct 1998

The 1993 Brunello di Montalcino is a full-bodied, powerful wine with surprisingly sweet tannin. The color is dark garnet with some amber at the edge. The nose offers up waves of smoke, roasted nuts, fruitcake, black cherries, Asian spices, and herbs. Rich, with no hard edges, plenty of glycerin, and a long finish, this evolved, complete wine can be drunk now, or cellared for 10-12 years. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900

Good deep red. Tight, slightly high-toned aromas of cassis, mint and flowers. Boasts terrific intensity of dark berry flavor but very primary and tightly wrapped today. Long, firmly tannic finish. Needs several years of aging.
