Tasting notes
Mid-crimson. Sweet, rather simple, nose. Easy to like. Round and full. Quite open at first, though tannins insist towards the end. Honest, if not sophisticated. Slight lack of focus. (JR)

The dark garnet-colored 1997 Brunello di Montalcino's sweet tobacco, red currant, cherry, and herb aromas are followed by an excellent attack, and a medium-bodied, dry, angular finish. Although very good, it is hardly an exceptional effort from this highly praised vintage. Anticipated maturity: now-2014. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900
