Fresh mint and clove give way to plums and sweet smoke as the 2004 Brunello di Montalcino forms in the glass. This maintains fantastic balance and soft, supple textures with a solid core of dark red berry fruit. It finishes a bit short yet remains crisp and fresh, leaving a tart cranberry crunchiness to linger.

Aromas of dried roses and light dried red fruit lead to a palate that has compact, punchy, dried red-fruit flavors. Mature now, so drink up.
Ciacci's 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is fabulous. Still fresh and vibrant, the 2004 will continue to drink well for another decade or more. Today, the 2004 is all about nuance. The tannins have softened, which makes the wine accessible today, but there is plenty of underlying structure. Crushed flowers, tobacco, cedar and aromatic herbs add the final layers of nuance in this impeccably balanced, harmonious Brunello from Ciacci.
Good medium red. Slightly medicinal aromas of cherry, redcurrant, licorice and lavender. Supple, broad and a bit dry-edged, showing some spicy oak. Broad and sweet but chunkier in texture than the much suaver Pianrosso. The medicinal quality follows through on the drying back end. All three of the bottles I tasted shared a slightly disjointed peppery-herbal/syrupy fruit character.
