The 1993 Brunello di Montalcino is wonderfully vibrant in the glass. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, white pepper and chalk all run through this somewhat nervy, aromatically intense Brunello. For a thirty-year-old wine, the 1993 remains surprisingly energetic.

The 1993 Brunello di Montalcino is fully resolved. Dried stone fruit, cedar, tobacco, leather, herbs and dried flowers give the wine its fully tertiary personality. In this tasting, the 1993 is not especially exciting given the other bottles that are on the table. All things considered, the 1993 is a good Brunello to drink now and over the next few years, before the fruit dries out too much further.

About the producer
Soldera is one of the most highly rated, fiercely collected wines of Italy. The winery is based in the Brunello di Montalcino, however the estate is no longer labelled as a Brunello, following a fall out with the consortium. Made from 100% Sangiovese, the wine is currently bottled as a Toscana IGT.
