The 1986 Brunello di Montalcino is a fine way to open the second day of this tasting. Light floral accents and a hint of spice run through this decidedly translucent, delicate Brunello. All the elements are impeccably balanced. Time in the glass brings out lovely inner perfume to round things out in style.

The 1986 Brunello di Montalcino is another wine that is giving all it's got today. Brighter and lighter in structure than most Soldera Brunellos, the 1986 presents a distinctly lifted expression of Sangiovese, with plenty of red cherry, cranberry, mint and white pepper flavors. The wine's mid-weight structure makes it an excellent choice for drinking over the next handful of years.

One of the more accessible and mature wines in this tasting, the 1986 Brunello di Montalcino is already quite forward, with smoke, tobacco, menthol and worn-in leather notes that open up in the glass. The 1986 is quite pretty and supple today. Despite its obvious beauty, the 1986 appears to have limited cellaring potential at this stage. Nevertheless, it is hugely delicious today, even in this company.

Soldera's 1986 Brunello di Montalcino is another of the positive surprises in this tasting. It is similar in style to the 1982 in its full-bodied, structured expression of Sangiovese. This is an undeniably great bottle.
