The 2005 Korem is an unctuous, full-bodied wine that offers the essence of sweet blackberries, tar and smoke with superb purity and length. Despite its sweetness and silky, refined tannins there is plenty of structure underneath to provide for a minimum of several years of very fine drinking. A blend of 55% Bovale Sardo, 35% Carignano and 10% Cannonau, it spent 12 months in French oak. This is a terrific effort from Argiolas.

A blend of 55% Bovale Sardo, 35% Carignano and 10% Cannonau, it spent 12 months in French oak. This is a terrific effort from Argiolas. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015. Argiolas is one of my favorite producers in Italy. The estate, located in Sardinia, makes a number of compelling wines that highlight just how intriguing the island’s unique terroirs and indigenous varieties can be. Of course, it never hurts to have the consulting services of one of the world’s most renowned oenologists, in this case Sardinia native, Giacomo Tachis. To make things even better, most of the wines remain reasonably priced as well.
