Tasting notes
Dark ruby. The 1998 Percristina appears to have entered the early part of its maturity and is an excellent choice for drinking today. It is an opulent Barolo with plenty of fruit and much persistence on the palate, made in a rich, seamless style, with superbly well-integrated oak and softening tannins. 1998 is the last vintage this wine was aged in 150 liter Taransaud cigarillos, subsequent vintages have been aged in standard-size barriques.

The 1998 vintage did not give the producer fruit of the same superb quality, as evidenced by the 1998 Barolo Per Cristina. The dark color is promising, but the nose is just a touch too ripe and the tannins, despite the overall intensity of the flavors, less ample, generous, and round. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. The 1998 Barolo Mosconi Per Cristina Riserva reveals aromas of sweet black fruit intermixed with new oak, blueberry, flowers, and an underlying minerality. Full-bodied, powerful, deep, and chewy, this youthful, backward 1998 is spectacular. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2018.
