The 1984 Lafleur is perhaps the only post-1970 that I had not tasted until this point. Maybe I am hoping for some revelation but frankly, it is not very good. The nose is monotone and loose-knit, rather enervated after many years, quite anonymous. The palate is old bones and dry, almost hollow with a lack of joy and vivacity on the finish. Tasted at the “International Wine & Business” Lafleur dinner at Ten Trinity, London.

Certainly a success for the vintage, the 1984 Lafleur has a sweet, ripe nose and is obviously much lighter on the palate than usual, but I must admit I was surprised by the depth of fruit and length. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 2/89.
