Tasting notes
Candied lemon peel, minerals and gunflint on the nose, with some gamey, smoky reduction. Concentrated, broad and dry, but with a finer-grained texture than most of the other 2002s at this address. Not a particularly voluminous wine but quite suave and long. The silex soil is what gives this wine its smoky, reduced aspect.

(70% barriques Good pale color. Spicy aromas of ripe peach, smoked pepper and wet stone; slightly gruner-like. Dense, tactile and thick, but given shape and definition by firm, perfectly integrated acids and a repeating peppery element. Very strong, complex fruit and mineral flavors. Almost aggressive now but with no rough edges (Droin says this wine would be very strict without the wood treatment). In fact, this turns silkier toward the back. Will merit a score near the upper end of my projected range if it successfully absorbs its oak.
