The 1999 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a splendid bouquet with red plum, juicy raspberry and perhaps just a patina of oak that was never fully subsumed. I would have liked a little more mineralité . The palate has a sweet entry with vivacious red fruit, blood orange and a touch of dark chocolate. It is very "Jadot" in style from Jacques Lardière's era, but I appreciate how it gains tension in the glass. Tasted at David Pope's 1999 Burgundy horizontal at Lorne.

Ruby-red. Aromatic nose of black cherry and game. Strong, sweet, thoroughly ripe black fruit flavors nicely framed by sound acidity. Intense and firmly structured. Finishes with solid, ripe tannins.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
