100% Sangiovese. Very tangy. Pure piercing nose. Mellow yet fresh on the palate. Lightly autumnal. Already delicious with the tannins unnoticeable. Velvety texture. To me this doesn't taste at all like Sangiovese because it is SO luscious. Not typical Chianti but a great drink. Fuller and more opulent than the Marchesi Antinori 2001. (JR)

The 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva Badia a Passignano, is even better than its sibling with its deeper and darker color, potent aromas of plums and wild cherries, herbs, and vanilla, and its rich and velvety tobacco and licorice-laced palate. It will drink well for another dozen years. Importer: Remy Amerique, New York, NY; tel. (212) 424-2202

100% Sangiovese, 14 months in barrels and barriques, 12 months in bottle. Exceptionally dark. Very modern oakiness on the nose. Quite intense but definitely different. Rather sweet and voluptuous. Very heady and flattering but extremely distinctive. Fine tannins on the finish. The acidity seems a bit swamped by all that rapturous fruit. (JR)
