Tasted blind. Black fruits on the nose and a particularly supple texture with only the vestiges of tannin underneath. A certain mintiness. Not a long-distance runner but it gives pleasure now. (JR)
Plump black fruits, fairly light fruit profile, smooth texture and good balance. Perhaps a bit buttoned-down and introverted? Lacks the flair you might expect from Pomerol. (RH)
The 2008 Hosanna comes from an era when I found Christian Moueix’s cru too heady for my personal taste. It felt as if it was always trying too hard. Now at a decade old, it has a ripe and quite concentrated bouquet with black cherry and menthol aromas, opulent compared to more recent vintages and perhaps not quite as complex. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe and rounded tannin, concentrated and opulent in style, brash but missing the finesse that Christian Moueix has imparted in more recent vintages. Château Hosanna is a relatively young wine label in Pomerol, but one with some of the richest heritage in the entire region. It couldn’t be better situated with Château Lafleur to the north, Vieux Château Certan to the south and flanked on either side by Pétrus and Château Lafleur-Pétrus.
