Coffee, mocha, tobacco, smoked earth, creme de cassis, this is still robust with firm tannins, mint leaf, not a huge amount of charm but plenty of character, majoring on soot and spicy notes, along with brambled blackberry fruits. A heat wave year with very low yields. Needed a second bottle to unearth its charms - bottle variation at this age is to be exepcted. This is holding on better than many 1976s, but it is impressive rather than one to fall in love with.

Giscours produced a deeply colored, plump, quite round, and generously fruity wine, with medium to full body and a lush texture.
