Good bright medium red. Pungent, wild aromas of redcurrant, spices, leather, game, iron and earth; conveys a noble rusticity. Silky and fine-grained, with heady stony minerality energizing the redcurrant and raspberry flavors. Finishes with suave tannins, sneaky intensity and lingering notes of minerals and leather. Not a particularly fleshy style and in need of at least a few years to harmonize in bottle.

(from vines planted in 1975 and 1976; Bouchard did a strict green harvest here and fermented with 25% whole clusters): High-pitched aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and mint. Juicy and concentrated but still quite primary, with flavors of dark berries, violet, spices and mint. conveying a strong impression of extract to the dark fruit. Not yet complex but the wine's very suave tannins and impression of strong extract suggest that it will reward cellaring. The quality of this wine has mounted since 2005, said Prost, noting that the vines came from Henri Boillot in a trade in 1997 for Bouchard's Volnay Fremiets.

Bought only two years ago. Relatively cool site. Lots of blue still there and very perfumed fruit. Bouchard bought the fruit for ages and it was always big berried. But they have cut down on yields. Very dry, chewy finish. Very muscular. (JR)
