Boillot lost 70% of his 2003 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchere (white) to the April freezes. Revealing nuts and minerals in its aromas as well as flavors, this light-bodied effort is bright, herbal, and detailed. It should be consumed over the next 4 years. (just 20 hectoliters per hectare produced) Subtle aromas of flowers and spices. A step up in brightness and intensity from the Perrieres, with old-viney sappiness of flavor and brisk acidity. A real essence of Puligny-Montrachet. As with the negociant Meursault Charmes, Boillot used a sizable percentage of second generation grapes to make a fresher wine. The acidity here is 3. 5 grams, with a healthy-for-the-vintage pH of 3. 32.

Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
