Score 90/100 · Drink 2002-2012, Robert Parker, Dec 2002

The exotic 2000 Pin Monferrato Rosso (a blend of 25% Barbera, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 50% Nebbiolo aged 18 months in new French oak) reveals a smoky, full-bodied style along with a kinky nose of black fruits mixed with vanilla, spice box, and espresso. Rich and chewy, with moderate tannin as well as a sweet, long, concentrated finish, it should be consumed over the next decade, although I suspect it will last longer. (50% nebbiolo and 25% each cabernet sauvignon and barbera from Asti) Full, saturated medium ruby. Sappy, highly aromatic nose offers cassis, blackcurrant, licorice, dried flowers and mint. Chewy, very concentrated and fresh, with an intriguing saline quality. Serious, structured wine with vibrancy and spine. Finishes firmly tannic and very long, with late notes of spice and pepper.
