Score 93/100 · Drink 2012-2017, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2012

The 2010 Grimalt/Caballero is a pure Callet and has a fabulous nose of brambly black fruit, briar and orange rind that soars from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, ripe tannins. It is beautifully balanced and so sensual in texture, with a garrigue-tinged finish that caresses the mouth and leaves you yearning for another sip. Drink now-2017. I have been an avid fan of “4 Kilos” for the last couple of years: a winery that demonstrates how great wine can originate from unlikely corners. It was set up in Mallorca in 1996 by ex-Anima Negra winemaker Francesco Grimalt and musician Sergio Caballero. They marry indigenous grape varieties such as Callet and Fogoneu with international varieties and vinify the wines in a converted sheep farm in open top oak vats. The name? That comes from their initial investment of 4 million pesetas. No US importer, although available through www.indigowine.com in the UK and various agents around Europe.
