Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2007 Bordeaux tasting. I've never been a huge fan of this vintage from Jonathan Maltus; I think he's made better and improved his winemaking since this. The 2007 Le Dôme has a dainty bouquet with maraschino cherry and fresh strawberries, a little monotone at first but gaining definition all the time in the glass and displaying fine focus. The palate is fresh on the entry, quite crisp and taut, almost pinched, in fact. After the pleasing aromatics, this feels a little disjointed, and the oak is not as deftly integrated as its peers. Perhaps more bottle age will meld it together? Tasted March 2015.

Bright vibrant ruby. Fruit a little tired on the nose. Really pretty dull overall. It has lost its youthful fruit but hasn’t really much complexity and evolution to compensate. Pinched tannins on the end. (JR)
Good deep red-ruby. Black cherry and Baker's chocolate on the nose. Juicy, spicy and firmly built; the roundest and most concentrated of the Maltus wines from Saint-Emilion but also nicely lifted by violet and minerals. Finishes with lingering sweetness.
Saturated bright ruby. Lovely lift to the aromas of blackberry, minerals, violet and mint; the floral quality verges on exotic. Rich and powerful in the context of the year, and long on personality too, offering very pure flavors of currant, dark chocolate, iron and tobacco. Finishes broad and ripe, with serious tannic spine and excellent precision. I like the combination of volume, minerality and energy on display here.
About the producer
The man behind highly regarded Saint-Émilion wine Le Dôme is a Nigerian-born Brit who sold his engineering firm in 1992 to move to Cahors and restore a pile of ruins. After meeting a local vineyard owner at a dinner party, he ended up selling his production to Oddbins and was caught by the wine bug.
